Finca Cerro Muniz is a beautiful rustic gem, found nestling in the lush Andalucian countryside not far from Casares, next to the gentle flowing Rio Jordana (although no more than a trickle in the summer). This charming 3 bedroom country house has all the amenities of modern life, whilst maintaining the charm of a bygone age, with parts of the original building dating from 1840.
Surrounded by river stone terraces, two of the bedrooms have huge tiled patios each with table and chairs, and ideal for relaxing in the sunshine. Internal floors are all beautifully tiled, with the older part of the house featuring traditional ceramic tiles from Ronda. The house has 3 bedrooms, plus a small casita next door, which has a large single bed and a rustic wood stove. The house and casita will sleep 7 in all.
The two large double bedrooms have double doors leading out to private terraces, with spectacular views of the mature gardens that surround the house. Take in the scent from the trumpet lilies covering the terraces as you relax outside your room after a hard day by the pool. The high timber ceilings found throughout the house, give an air of space and beauty, and keep the house cool, even in the height of an Andalucian summer. The third bedroom has 2 single beds. There are 2 bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs both with shower over bath.
The living room is cosy and eclectic with numerous paintings, carefully collected by the owner over many years, covering the walls and a delightful, upright piano in the corner. The open fire gives warmth in the winter if you’re planning on visiting out of season. Satellite TV with access to UK channels is supplied.
The large rustic kitchen is spacious with a high beamed ceiling, and equipped with all mod cons including washing machine, fridge freezer, dishwasher and gas hob plus electric oven. French doors lead out to a beautiful shaded terrace, with old wooden table and chairs ideal for ‘al fresco’ dining, or relaxing with a good book from the collection that come with the house.
The mature, luscious garden is absolutely stunning with a maze of grapefruit, orange, lemon and fig trees all giving an abundance of shade, colour and beauty. There are little bridges over the stream, leading onto walks across the 3 hectres of land.
The 8x5 metre private pool is surrounded by paved and grassed areas and is close to the house, but cleverly situated so that it is just far enough away to ensure that noise of children in the pool will not disturb an afternoon siesta in the house or adjacent gardens. The pool receives sun all day and there is a large sunshade umbrella providing an area of shade 3m x 3m.
The charming ‘pueblo blanco’ of of Casares with is only a 10 minute drive away, where you can relax over drinks and tapas, or explore the maze of narrow streets that wind their way up to the castle overlooking the village. The coast with beach bars and cafes, also only a 10 minute drive. Marbella is a 45 minute drive with everything it has to offer, and Tarifa and the Atlantic coast with its many miles of stunning golden beaches is just over an hour away in the opposite direction.
This is a perfect haven to enjoy a holiday far away from the madding crowd, but still easy enough to find things to do if you’re feeling more adventurous. There are several excellent restaurants within a few kms of the house.
The private 600 meter track is narrow and steep in places, and although the owner uses it every day in his 2 wheel drive compact car, we do advise guests they might be more comfortable in a 4-wheel drive vehicle.
The Finca is available form Saturday to Saturday.
